All about your course

So, you have decided to embark on BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. We look very much forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your time at North Herts College.
This course runs over a year and is full time.  This means that you are expected in college three full days a week.  One additional day should be set aside for work placement and another day for study.  You will study a total of eight units. These are as follows:

Mandatory Units:
  1. Communication in Health and Social Care
  2. Individual Rights in Health and Social Care
  3. Individual Needs in Health and Social Care
  4. Ensuring Safe Environments in Health and Social Care
You will also study four from the following units (these are subject to a few factors, a) who your Course Lead is and their unit specialism; b) whether you undertake work experience*; and c) optional unit for your final project.

     5.  Vocational Experience
     6.  Cultural Diversity
     7.  Anatomy and Physiology
     8.  Human Lifespan Development
     9.  Creative and Therapeutic Activities
     10. Health and Social Care Services
     11. Impact of Diet on Health

*Note: Unit 5/Vocational Experience will involve students carrying out 60 hours voluntary work within a health or social care setting,  This is subject to a Disclosure and Barring check (formally known as CRB) and availability.

We expect to have two level 2 groups.  One will be lead by Carmen Brown and supported by Learning Coach Michelle Moncrieffe.  The other lead by Chaleen Heller and supported by Learning Coach Karen Hyland.  All these members of staff will be monitoring this blog so we can get to know you and answer any questions you have prior to your course starting in September.

Each tutor will run a number of projects.  Units will be embedded within the projects. The emphasis will be on you, working 'with' us and being very 'hands on' during your course.  We believe that by being active in your learning, you will gain skills necessary, to prepare you for the workplace and enhance your whole learning experience.
